Forward Motion

Today was a day of forward motions and emotions for Joseph and mom. He was easily and safely taken off of the ventilator tube, that was in his lung, and is now wearing a fancy new mask. They call this mask a CPAP and the air flows through his nose instead of the tube going into his lungs. This means that he is having to work a little harder to breath but he is taking it like a champ. I was able to be there when they removed his tube, it was an excited and scary moment for sure. This is just another major milestone for Joseph, it shows that he is continuing to have forward moving progress and making new strides. They also did a third brain scan today to check the level two bleed he currently has, we will know those results tomorrow, but believe they will be most likely fine. To say it lightly today was all in all a miracle. For him to switch to the CPAP mask and continue to breath with only 25-30% help from the ventilator is amazing. His oxygen saturation is remains stable in the 85% range with only few minor dips this afternoon. He still is eating the 16ML every three hours and seems to be tolerating and digesting them with no problems. His little body is continuing to get strong each and everyday and this proves that!

We also had another first today, I got to hold my baby! While the respiratory care nurse and Josephs shift nurse were changing his bed, he peed through his diaper, they let me hold him. She was so nice and snapped some pictures for me so I will be able to cherish the moment forever! To be able to put both of my hands around his little body and hold him close to me, like I would my own babies, was unbelievable. To kiss his shoulder and breath on him, just the power of touch that bonded us together is nothing other than amazing! I cannot wait to continue to hold him as he grows, and feel his body get stronger everyday!
