All Smiles

We are all smiles over here this weekend. Joseph has progressed so well this week and we are overjoyed. Kirby went to see him this morning and he is up to 1 pound and 11 ounces! They have increased his feedings to 7.5ML this afternoon and it will go up to 8ML at midnight, if he continues to digest it well. He has been without the ultraviolet lights for the past few days because his bilirubin levels have been good. He did receive some blood to even out his hemoglobin levels yesterday. This is an easy process where they put an IV in his leg and over the course of three hours for the blood to slowly transfuse  into his little body. He continues to do well on the vent and it is still currently turned down to 30%.

When I was able to spend some time with him Saturday he was fairly alert opening his eyes, moving his little hands and smiling in his sleep. Ever time I look at him, all I can think, is what a miracle this baby is, great are you Lord to create such beauty for his little life. We pray as we go into this next week that we continue to have celebrations as he grows and meets milestone marks. We pray that as we are in and out of the hospital the nurses and doctors can sense Gods presence in Kirby and I’s lives. As we pour our love into this life that was given to us, in such special way, that others will go and pour their love on people, who may not of had a chance and have found themselves stuck in the darkness of life. May we be the light that starts a trend in those who are around us. Through baby Joseph may we share our faith and proclaim your goodness all the days of his life. Today we praise you for the blood you shed for every moment of our lives.

“You hear us calling, You hear us calling, Abba Father. You hear us calling, You hear us calling, Abba Father. Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy.” (Prayers of the People)

Romi, I love your Mommy voice! Obviously, Joseph does, too. Did you see him try so hard to open his little eyes, just to see his Mama?
Yay for 1 oz!! I was thinking about that, and it might not sound like a lot, but for Joseph, that is nearly a 4% weight gain. To do that in one day is amazing – he is working so hard.
So I am wondering, can you share with us what all those tubes are doing? What a little trooper – to have to lay there all day, intubated, with all those tubes – he can’t even cry. But he smiles at his Mama – reminds me of that book, “Are You My Mother?” The answer is Yes, this beautiful young lady is your Mama!!

The cord on his left leg is the IV line they just put in Saturday for his extra blood and they are now using that line for his oils to go through (Se day 24 post). The ventilator is the tube sticking out of his mouth. The tiny white tube in his mouth is the feeding tube. The tubes on his left arm, as of today are gone. That was the pic line delivering lipids and some type of “vitamin” fluid. Hope that helps!

  3. I’m already in love with Baby Joseph! I can’t wait each day until you post his progress. He already knows your voice Romi. When you talked to him he started fluttering his eyes. He is so precious. Love you all.
